What’s all the toot about Woot?
One of the advantages in running an Internet company is that I get to hang out with techies! Around here, techie is an affectionate term. The other day Jason Ayers our VP of Operations was talking about an auction site that has only one auction per day. There is a set price WAY below anything you will ever see at any retail site but when the items are sold out they are gone! The site is called http://www.woot.com
This is how they describe themselves:
What is woot and who's behind it?
Woot.com is an online store and community run by the employees of a 10 year old consumer electronics distributor that focuses on close-outs and generally buying stuff cheap. Since the distributor doesn’t sell to end users, Woot, Inc provides us with an employee-store slash market-testing type of place. Hopefully the boss won’t take notice. We anticipate profitability by 2043 -- by then we should be retired; someone smarter might take over and jack up the prices.
Part of the fun is to read the item descriptions. They are new each day and remind me of what people used to say about some of our great story tellers like Huck Finn author Mark Twain.

Earth’s Biggest Movie Database (Or So They Claim)
The award-winning Internet Movie Database website at http://www.imdb.com/ is billed as "the most comprehensive free source of movie info on the Internet," and I believe it. The site offers data, and details, on just about every movie of note ever made each with lots of information (actors, directors, studio, rating, genre, etc.), all of it is extensively cross-linked. If you've ever wondered about a director's other flicks, or what actor played a minor role in the latest blockbuster, here's the place to look. You'll find lots of other info here as well -- viewers' ratings, actor bios and filmographies, this day in movie history, best and worst rated movies, and more. For movie buffs of all ages.
