Finding the best Deal!
Driving to work one day I felt like it was time to buy one newer truck
and sell the farm truck and the grocery getter my wife drives. After my
wife made a trip to a couple of dealers and test drove, a Honda Ridgeline,
Ford Explorer Sport Trac, and Toyota Tacoma she settled on the Sport
Trac.
As we began the quest we went to the usual sources. To find a car. We
looked at:
1. http://www.autotrader.com
2. http://www.carmax.com
While searching on line for the vehicles we could save them in a
favorites spot on Auto Trader and come back and look at them separately
from different computers. We found a few 2007 Models she was interested
in viewing but before we went to the dealer or the private party that
placed the ad we looked up the values here.
1. http://www.edmunds.com
2. http://www.kbb.com
3. http://www.nadaguides.com
Armed with good information we looked at several but neither the dealer
nor the private party wanted to make a deal at our price, so we waited.
It is credit to my wife that she was patient in the process. After about
10 days the dealer called me and told me they would come down on the price
$499. I had offered them $1,500 less. I told the sales guy that I would
split the difference with them but they had to come down a total of
$1,000. He said he didn.t think so but he would call me if they
would.
He called and we are the proud new owners of a Silver Ford Explorer
Sport Trac XLT with 38,000 miles on it for about $1,000 less than the book
in good condition.
Happy negotiating out there!

Finding Food That is Good For You!
This is the kind of site that should have been built years ago. Zeer at
http://www.zeer.com/ displays the
nutritional labels for every kind of packaged food you can buy, then lets
users rate and comment on their favorite items. Wondering whether you
should give Doritos Hint of Lime-flavored chips a try? At Zeer, 14 out of
20 people give them the thumbs-up and will tell you exactly why.
Zeer is the leading consumer grocery information resource, helping
people buy better groceries based upon their particular needs and
interests. Zeer helps people sort through more than 110,000 products to
find the right foods for them. Zeer has been named a Top 50 Website by
Time.com.
While the USDA's National Nutrient Database at http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
has offered similar information for years, Zeer is so much better designed
- with a focus on real products instead of hypothetical portions of
generic food items - that you might actually use it.

Stop Calling Me
If you've received an e-mail telling you that your cell phone is about
to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone
number database, rest assured that this is not the case. Telemarketing to
cell phone numbers has always been illegal in most cases and will continue
to be so. In response to recent e-mail campaigns urging consumers to place
their cell phone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, the Federal
Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission issued an advisory
to give consumers the facts.
One e-mail making the rounds says:
"JUST A REMINDER...In a few weeks, cell phone numbers are being released
to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sale calls. YOU
WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS... To prevent this, call the following
number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222. It is the National DO NOT CALL
list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for
five (5) years. PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS...."
Another version claims:
"The Federal Trade Commission has set up a "do not call" list. It is
called a cell phone registry. To be included on the "do not call" list,
you must call from the number you wish to register..."
Here's what you need to know about the National Do Not Call Registry
program:
- The registry clearly says it is for your home or mobile
phone.
- FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to
call cell phone numbers. Automated dialers are standard in the industry,
so most telemarketers cannot call people on their cell phones without
their consent.
- The federal government does not maintain a national cell phone
registry. Personal cell phone users have always been able to add their
numbers to the National Do Not Call Registry . the same registry people
use to register their land lines - either online at http://www.donotcall.gov or by
calling toll-free 1-888-382-1222 from the telephone number they wish to
register.
- Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will
remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007,
which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm
.
So... Even though it does seem there have been a few unwanted calls to
my own cell phone I realize it was probably listed as my primary number
somewhere and ended up on a list. So I registered it like any other
number. Perhaps you should consider the same, but there is no panic...
there is not a "cell phone data base"... and no registry will prevent all
calls.
Happy calls folks.
